S.G. Frantz Series F1 Electromagnetic Separators have been the workhorses of the magnetic separation industry for over 65 years. This is due, in part, to the fact that the unit has no moving parts. With proper maintenance, our F1 Electromagnetic Separators have been known to last 50 years or more.

The background field induces a field several times more intense in the collecting elements, with a high-field energy gradient H(dH/dX) at the collecting edges of a standard matrix element fabricated of steel ribbon .25″ in width and 0.02″ thick calculated as 7.2 x 1011 gauss2/cm (assuming that the field induced in the steel near the edge is about 8,500 gauss, as measurements indicate).

SERIES F1 ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPARATORS FOR WET MATERIALS

The S.G. Frantz F1 Electromagnetic Separators for wet materials utilize a magnetic background field of approximately 1,000 gauss to economically and efficiently process and separate ferromagnetic particles under many processing conditions. The standard model can handle product temperatures up to 176°F (80°C), while special thermal insulated and water-cooled units can handle product temperatures up to 400°F (205°C). They are available in the following three designs with individual models configured to meet customer needs.

F1 Gravity Flow Electromagnetic Separators

F1 Gravity Flow Electromagnetic Separators

For open systems of liquids and slurries, we offer the Gravity Flow model, which works by feeding material into an open bowl at the top of the unit, processing it through proprietary grids or other matrix materials, and then discharging the remaining materials through a centered pipe-threaded connection at the bottom. A safety valve holds open when the power is on and closes off the discharge when the current is interrupted. A float valve controls flow discharge so as to flood the working space and provide uniform, low-velocity flow throughout the matrix, where magnetic separation takes place.

F1 Underfeed Electromagnetic Separators

F1 Underfeed Electromagnetic Separators

We also offer the Underfeed model for open systems of liquids and slurries. This unit works by feeding material into a centered, threaded pipe connection at the bottom, processing it through proprietary grids or other matrix materials, and then discharging the filtered material through the spout at the top into an open trough or receptacle. The design of the F1 Electromagnetic Underfeed Separator ensures complete flooding and uniform flow throughout the matrix.

F1 Pipeline Electromagnetic Separators

Finally, for pressurized liquids, slurries and gases, we offer the F1 Pipeline model, which works by feeding material through a centered, threaded inlet pipe connection at the bottom; processing it through proprietary grids, expanded metal, stainless steel wool and other matrix materials; and then discharging the filtered material through a threaded outlet coupling on the side at the top. This design allows for complete flooding and uniform flow, as well as easy access to the matrix assembly for maintenance.

SERIES F1 ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPARATORS FOR DRY MATERIALS

S.G. Frantz F1 Electromagnetic Separators for Dry Materials utilize either a magnetic background field of approximately 500 gauss (for air-cooled models) or approximately 700 gauss (for water-cooled models). The standard model can handle product temperatures up to 150°F (66°C), while special thermal-insulated and water-cooled units can handle product temperatures up to 400°F (205°C). They are available in the following two designs (with individual models configured to meet customer needs).

DRY MATERIAL GRID MODELS

S.G. Frantz offers two styles of Series F1 Electromagnetic Separators with Vane/Wet-type grids. These include suspended models and floor models for various plant applications.

Both models hang on four aluminum or stainless steel rods with elastomer-bushed connections at both ends to permit lateral motion under vibration. The difference is, the suspended model is attached to the customer’s supplied structure, while the floor models are mounted on a floor stand and frame which can be moved to any location in the plant. (NOTE: Standard floor models have a top ring with a feed hopper attached, while standard suspended models have a top ring with a hub attached to permit use in a closed system.)

All models have an eccentric weight vibrator attached to the casing. Vibration can be adjusted to impart the motion required to aid passage of the material. Hubs are provided for attachment of a flexible sleeve at the bottom.

F1 Electromagnetic Separators with Vane-Type Grids

F1 Electromagnetic Separators with Vane-Type Grids

For dry granular materials and powders, our Vane-Type F1 Electromagnetic Separators utilize grids made of cast iron or welded steel in various opening sizes to remove fine ferromagnetic particles from a wide range of materials and powders. They can be plated or coated to accommodate various processing conditions. Units are available with hub connections for suspension from a plant structure or with a hopper for operation from a floor stand.

F1 Electromagnetic Separators with Wet-Type Grids

F1 Electromagnetic Separators with Wet-Type Grids

For moderately free-flowing materials, our Wet-Type F1 Electromagnetic Separators utilize the same proprietary grids normally used for processing liquids, slurries and gases to process dry granular materials and powders. Matrices comprised of wet-type grids have many times the cumulative length of collecting edges than those found in vane-type grids, allowing for better separation. With a unique assembly of grids and a different vibration pattern, such materials can be more effectively processed. A single pass through a matrix of wet grids is equivalent to several passes through a matrix of vane-type grids. Units are available with hub connections for suspension from a plant structure or with a hopper for operation from a floor stand.
